About InterScan Messaging Security Suite ======================================================================== InterScan Messaging Security Suite (IMSS) is a policy-based virus protection and content security solution for the SMTP gateway. It helps prevent virus outbreaks and protect enterprise security integrity. It's customizable routing and relay restriction features are easy to deploy and interoperate with existing messaging environments. InterScan eManager(TM) provides real-time content filtering, spam blocking, and reporting to help companies monitor and control the type of information that enters or leaves the network. 1.1 Overview of this Release ===================================================================== This patch includes all hotfixes released after IMSS 7.1 Service Pack 2 Build 1679. 1.2 Who Should Install this Release ===================================================================== Install this patch if you are currently running any package released before IMSS 7.1 Service Pack 2 Build 1808. 2. What's New ======================================================================== Note: Please install the patch before completing any procedures in this section (see "Installation"). This patch addresses the following issues and includes the following enhancements: 2.1 Enhancements ===================================================================== The following enhancements are included in this release: Enhancement 1: Email Scans - This patch enables IMSS for Linux 7.1 to use Web Reputation Services (WRS) and Email Reputation Services (ERS) information to scan email messages, which improves its ability to screen email messages with WRS newborn URLs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 1: To disable this feature: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the "/opt/trend/imss/config" folder using a text editor. c. Add the following setting under the "general" section and set its value to "no". [general] use_new_born_for_spam=no Note: This key is enabled by default. Setting the key to "yes" enables the feature while setting the key to "no" disables the feature. d. Save the changes and close the file. e. Restart the scanner service using the following command: /opt/trend/imss/script/S99IMSS restart Enhancement 2: Spam Scans - During spam scanning, IMSS uses the upstream mail transfer agent (MTA) IP address (sender IP address) to query the ERS and identify spam. If IMSS is not deployed at the network edge, the IMSS scan service cannot obtain the real sender IP address because the upstream MTA might be a known internal host or a trusted external MTA. This patch enables users to specify these known hosts to exempt them from Marketing Message List (MML) scanning and newborn spam scanning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 2: To enable the feature: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "${IMSS_HOME}/config/imss.ini" file using a text editor. c. Add the "known_hosts_enable" and "known_hosts_ip_list" options under the "general" section and set a preferred value for each. [general] known_hosts_enable=yes, enables the feature =no, (default) disables the feature known_hosts_ip_list=(IP addresses and address groups to be added to the known host list) Note: The delimiter is ";" for individual IP addresses and "/" between IP and mask for group IP addresses. For example: 192.168.0.1;192.168.0.2;192.168.2.0/24. d. Save the changes and close the file. e. Restart the IMSS scan service using the following command: ${IMSS_HOME}/script/S99IMSS restart Enhancement 3: Rescanned Email Messages - The IMSS for Linux 7.1 Service Pack 2 scanner reprocesses the following types of scanned email messages: - Quarantined email messages - Notification (with original email messages as attachments) - Readdressed email messages This patch adds some relevant information to the scanner's log entries to help users monitor these reprocessed email messages. Enhancement 4: Logging Levels - This patch allows users to specify the imp_exp logging level independent of the global logging level configuration "log_level". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 4: To enable this configuration: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the "/opt/trend/imss/config" folder using a text editor. c. Add the following setting under the "general" section and set the preferred value. [general] impexp_log_level=(nolog, normal (default), detail, diagnostic, or debug) Note: These values are case-insensitive. d. Save the changes and close the file. Enhancement 5: eManager - This patch allows users to configure IMSS to capture samples of files that triggered the DMC process of the eManager module to stop unexpectedly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 5: To configure IMSS to capture samples of files that triggered the DMC process of the eManager module to stop unexpectedly: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the "/opt/trend/imss/config" folder using a text editor. c. Add the following setting under the "general" section and specify the value to "on". [general] emgr_debug=on Note: This key is disabled by default. Setting the key to "on" enables the feature while setting the key to "off" disables the feature. d. Save the changes and close the file. e. Restart the IMSS scan service using the following command: ${IMSS_HOME}/script/S99IMSS restart Enhancement 6: Audit Logs - This patch enables IMSS to add audit logs to the system events when an administrator delivers, reprocesses, or deletes email messages on the "Quarantine and Archive Query" screen. Enhancement 7: End-User Quarantine Console - This patch allows users to log on to the IMSS management console and End-User Quarantine (EUQ) console using smart cards. Enhancement 8: Quarantine Logs - This patch adds a quarantine event log type, which provides statistical information about false positives. This can help guide administrators in creating more effective policy rule settings. Enhancement 9: Certificate Files - This patch updates the "gen_crl_file.sh" script to enable IMSS to download and merge certificate files. Enhancement 10: Policy Server Notifications - This patch enables IMSS to add the host name information in policy server notifications to help users determine which is the original machine. Enhancement 11: eManager - This patch allows users to specify the debug log path and level for the IMSS eManager module. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 11: To configure the debug log and level for the IMSS eManager module: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the "/opt/trend/imss/config" folder using a text editor. c. Add the following settings under the "general" section and specify the proper values. [general] emgr_debug=on emgr_debug_level=fault emgr_log_path=(path to an existing folder where you have the correct permissions) Note: If "emgr_debug_level" is set to "fault", then fault level information will be logged in the "emgrdebug.log" file in the folder specified in "emgr_log_path". If "emgr_debug_level" is set to any other value, then IMSS will not record any logs. d. Save the changes and close the file. e. Restart the IMSS scan service using the following command: ${IMSS_HOME}/script/S99IMSS restart Enhancement 12: Antispam Engine - This patch upgrades the antispam engine of IMSS for Linux 7.1 to add information about new types of threats and allow users to configure the antispam policy to detect these new types of threats. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 12: To enable this feature: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the "/opt/trend/imss/config" folder using a text editor. c. Add or locate the "tmase" section, add or locate the "enable_tlsh_decompress" key under the section, and set its value to "yes": [tmase] enable_tlsh_decompress=yes Note: The default value of this key is "yes" which enables the option. To disable the option, set "enable_tlsh_decompress=no". d. Save the changes and close the file. e. Restart scanner service using the following command: /opt/trend/imss/script/S99IMSS restart Enhancement 13: Ransomware Detection - This patch enables users to keep track of ransomware detections in IMSS. Users can query this information through the log query page and view the statistics on the admin console's summary page. Enhancement 14: True File Type Detection - This patch enables users to configure IMSS 7.1 Service Pack 2 to detect true file types that are encoded and inserted into an email body. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 14: To configure IMSS 7.1 Service Pack 2 to detect true file types that are encoded and inserted into an email body: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the"${IMSS_HOME}/ config" folder using a text editor. c. Add the following setting under the "general" section and set its value to "yes". [general] AllowScanEmbeddedBase64Attachment=yes Note: This key is disabled by default. Setting the key to "yes" enables the feature while setting the key to "no" or removing the key disables the feature. d. Save the changes and close the file. e. Restart scanner service using the following command: ${IMSS_HOME}/S99IMSS restart Enhancement 15: Configuration Replication - This patch allows users to configure IMSS not to include the LDAP server name or IP address when it imports the configuration file on the Admin console or replicate IMSS configurations through Trend Micro Control Manager(TM). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 15: To enable IMSS to exclude the LDAP server name and IP address when it imports the configuration file on the Admin console or replicate IMSS configurations through Control Manager: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the"${IMSS_HOME}/ config" folder using a text editor. c. Add the following setting under the "general" section and set its value to "1". [general] impexp_exclusive_ldapsvr_hosts=1 Note: This key is disabled by default. Setting the key to "1" enables the feature while setting the key to "0" disables the feature. d. Save the changes and close the file. Enhancement 16: OpenSSL - This patch upgrades OpenSSL to version 1.0.2. Enhancement 17: Struts - This patch removes the struts 1.x module from IMSS. Enhancement 18: Logging - This patch adds the "msgerror.imss" log file in IMSS. This log file contains information about when IMSS cannot release or delete email messages. 2.2 Resolved Known Issues ===================================================================== This release resolves the following issues: Issue 1: The antispam filter's approved and blocked sender lists may not work properly after users install IMSS for Linux 7.1 Service Pack 2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 1: This patch ensures that the antispam filter's approved and blocked sender lists work properly. Issue 2: A memory violation issue in a third-party module of IMSS for Linux 7.1 Service Pack 2 may cause the ActiveUpdate module to stop unexpectedly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 2: This patch updates the third-party module to resolve the memory violation issue. Issue 3: The "imssstop.sh" script cannot stop some components if the scanner service is not installed on the computer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 3: This patch updates "imssstop.sh" to resolve this issue. Issue 4: The IMSS for Linux 7.1 Smart Scan feature uses an OpenSSL version that is affected by a certain vulnerability. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 4: This patch updates the Smart Scan package in IMSS for Linux 7.1 to resolve the issue. Issue 5: After applying IMSS for Linux 7.1 Hotfix 17200, the WRS newborn URLs feature may conflict with the MML feature in the ERS mail header. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 5: This patch ensures that the features work well together. Issue 6: If an email attachment contains a "Date:" header, the IMSS Scanner will treat the attachment as a body entity. When this happens, eManager no longer extracts the content of the structured attachment file and filters keywords in the attachment's binary data only. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 6: This patch resolves the issue by ensuring that IMSS for Linux 7.1 passes the correct email entity types to eManager. Issue 7: Sometimes, if users click a spam rule's editing button on the "Policy List" page of the Admin UI repeatedly, it may cause the approved or blocked sender list of the rule to grow and exceed the size limit of 640 KB. When this happens, the database and policy service may not work properly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 7: This patch resolves the issue by allowing IMSS for Linux 7.1 to disable the editability of any spam rule if it detects that the rule's editing button has been clicked repeatedly. Issue 8: If an encrypted attachment file in an email message does not trigger the current rule, the attachment's file name may appear incorrectly in the next triggered rule context. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 8: This patch ensures that the correct attachment file name appears. Issue 9: Some issues related to the Central Controller and EUQ services were found during an internal code review. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 9: This patch resolves these issues. Issue 10: The "About Regular Expressions" online help page is missing from the IMSS for Linux 7.1 Service Pack 2 package. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 10: This patch resolves this issue by adding the "About Regular Expressions" online help page to the IMSS for Linux 7.1 Service Pack 2 package. Issue 11: The popup dialog box about "Use SMTP Server for EUQ authentication" displays incorrect information. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 11: This patch ensures that the correct information appears on popup dialog box. Issue 12: The online help link on the "Summary Statistics" page of the Admin UI redirects users to the wrong page. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 12: This patch ensures that the online help link on the "Summary Statistics" page redirects users to the correct page. Issue 13: When IP Profiler is installed, Postfix cannot be correctly started after the nss-softokn-freebl package is upgraded to version 3.14.3-17 on Red Hat(TM) Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 13: This patch ensures that Postfix can start successfully. Issue 14: When the MML feature is enabled, the imssd process may insert the wrong ERS header to reprocessed quarantined email messages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 14: This patch ensures that IMSS inserts the correct ERS header into reprocessed quarantined email messages. Issue 15: The imssd process may stop unexpectedly while scanning malformed email messages. When this happens, some email messages will be remained in the Postfix queue. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 15: This patch enables the imssd process to scan malformed email messages properly. Issue 16: Some issues that may lead to security problems were found in the program code related to the Scanner, Central Controller, and End-User Quarantine (EUQ) services in IMSS for Linux 7.1 Service Pack 2 during an internal code review. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 16: This patch resolves these issues. Although it is almost impossible to exploit this issue to attack IMSS, a solution has been provided for security. Issue 17: The DMC process of the eManager module stops unexpectedly while scanning some Microsoft(TM) Office(TM) 2010 files. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 17: This patch resolves this issue by updating eManager. Issue 18: When performing configuration replication through Control Manager, database operation errors may prevent IMSS for Linux 7.1 from importing configurations to its database. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 18: This patch resolves this issue. Issue 19: Email messages can trigger a spam rule if the spam rule is configured with an aggressive threshold, but once an email message triggers a MML rule first, it will not trigger any succeeding spam rule. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 19: This patch resolves the issue. Issue 20: The scanning exception email messages cannot be delivered to BCC addresses though users have specified the BCC addresses on the "Security Settings Violations" screen of the IMSS management console. This problem also happens to malformed messages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 20: This patch resolves this issue. Issue 21: The Trend Micro URL Filtering Engine (TMUFE) skips JPEG URLs in the email body during scans because the extension (.jpg) is in its internal extension exclusion list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 21: This patch resolves the issue by allowing users to disable TMUFE’s extension exclusion list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 21: To disable TMUFE’s extension exclusion list: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Open the "imss.ini" file in the "/opt/trend/imss/config" folder using a text editor. c. Add the following setting under the "wrsagent" section and set its value to "no". [wrsagent] tmufe_file_exclusion_ext_list_enable=no Note: This setting is enabled by default. To enable the setting again, set its value to "yes". d. Save the changes and close the file. e. Restart the wrsagent service using the following command: /opt/trend/imss/script/S99WRSAGENT restart Issue 22: In certain scenarios, duplicate keyword expression entries appear under selected content filters when users view the policy rule on the IMSS management console. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 22: This patch removes duplicate expression IDs when users save policy rule keyword expressions. Issue 23: The IMSS for Linux 7.1 Smart Scan feature uses an OpenSSL version that is affected by CVE-2015-1788 and CVE-2015-1791 vulnerabilities. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 23: This patch updates the Smart Scan package in IMSS for Linux 7.1 to resolve the issue. Issue 24: Users cannot add email addresses that are in the "user@host" format to the "Approved sender list" on the "Spam detection settings" screen of the management console. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 24: This patch resolves the issue. Issue 25: A soft line break "=" may appear in the last line of email messages that are encoded in quoted-printable format. IMSS for Linux 7.1 removes these "" characters incorrectly, which causes an equal sign "=" to appear in the decoded messages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 25: This patch resolves the issue. Issue 26: The Control Manager Agent SDK module in IMSS for Linux 7.1 uses a libcurl version that is affected by the CVE-2014-8150 vulnerability. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 26: This patch updates the CMAgent SDK module to resolve the vulnerability. Issue 27: The attachment true file type filter does not support Javascript(TM) file types ".js" and ".jse", but the following line on the IMSS admin page indicates that it does: "Java byte code (.js .jse .cla. and .class)" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 27: This patch resolves the issue by removing the unsupported file types ".js" and ".jse" from the line. Issue 28: Under certain scenarios, unnecessary keywords or regular expressions appear in the policy event "Log Query Details" screen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 28: This patch resolves the issue. Issue 29: The log entries on the "Quarantine and Archive Query" screen cannot be sorted by the "Reason" column. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 29: This patch resolves the issue. Issue 30: When performing configuration replication through Control Manager, database operation errors may prevent IMSS for Linux 7.1 from importing configurations to its database. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 30: This patch resolves the issue. Issue 31: Certain AMD64 EXE files cannot be blocked by the true file type filter because the eManager module that IMSS is using does not support this file type. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 31: This patch resolves the issue by upgrading the eManager module. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Procedure 31: To configure policy rules to block "EXE" and "DLL" files: a. Install this patch (see "Installation"). b. Logon to the Admin UI console. c. Open the policy rule in "Policy List" which is using true file type filter for "EXE" and "DLL". d. Open the "Scanning Conditions" for "Attachment True File Type", and unfold "Executable", then you will see both "EXE" and "DLL" are unchecked automatically. e. Check "EXE" and "DLL" again, then save the policy rule. f. Repeat steps b, c, and d to edit other policy rules. Issue 32: When the IMSS daemon restarts for some reasons, for example, pattern update, TCP port 10024 might still be bound due to timing issues. As a result, the IMSS daemon cannot be restarted immediately. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 32: This patch resolves the issue by enabling IMSS to request the S99IMSS script to attempt to start the imssd process until port 10024 has been released. Issue 33: The DMC process of the eManager module takes a long time to run and may trigger a high CPU usage issue while scanning Microsoft Office PPTX files. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 33: This patch updates the eManager module to resolve this issue. Issue 34: The imsscmagent process stops unexpectedly when IMSS for Linux 7.1 is configured to communicate with Control Manager by HTTPS. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 34: This patch ensures that the imsscmagent process works normally with HTTPS. Issue 35: The foxdns process in IMSS for Linux 7.1 generates core dump files unexpectedly when users stop the process using the "/opt/trend/imss/script/S99FOXDNS stop" command. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution 35: This patch ensures that users can stop the foxdns process using the command without issues. Issue 40: Under certain scenarios, temporary files remain in the "${IMSS_HOME}/temp" folder after the IMSS scan service restarts.
