About InterScan Messaging Security Suite (IMSS) ======================================================================== InterScan Messaging Security Suite (IMSS) is a policy-based virus protection and content security solution for the SMTP gateway that helps prevent virus outbreaks and protect enterprise security integrity. Customizable routing and relay restriction features are easy to deploy and interoperate with existing messaging environments. InterScan eManager provides real-time content filtering, spam blocking, and reporting to help companies monitor and control the type of information that enters or leaves the network. 1.1 Overview of This Release ===================================================================== This service pack includes fixes to issues discovered after the release of IMSS 7.1. It also enhances some functions. For details, see Section 2, "What's New". 1.2 Who Should Install This Release ===================================================================== You should install this service pack if you are currently running IMSS 7.1 Linux or 7.1 SP1 Linux. 2. What's New ======================================================================== Note: Install the service pack before completing any procedure (see Section 5, "Installation"). This service pack includes the following enhancements and addresses the following issues: 2.1 Enhancements ===================================================================== Audit log enhancement ===================================================================== Audit logs record various administrator operations and provide a way to query activities of specified administrator accounts. Attachment keyword expression enhancement ===================================================================== Keyword expressions configured for IMSS policies are enhanced to apply not only to attachment content but also to attachment names. Attachment names supported by message tracking logs ===================================================================== Message tracking logs include attachment names as a new attribute. Multiple attachment names can be specified to query system tracking logs. Logon notice support ===================================================================== Customizable logon notices are available both on the administrator logon page and End-User Quarantine logon page. 2.2 Updated Components ===================================================================== This service pack updates the following components: Active Update 2.84.0.1075 -> 2.85.1094 TMNotify 1.1.108 -> 1.3 2.3 Resolved Known Issues ===================================================================== This service pack resolves the following issues: [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12700](TT-279929) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: When an email message is postponed, handed off, or quarantined and imssd writes the session information into an address file, it decodes recipient email addresses and adds the decoded information to the address file. Since postfix cannot recognize the decoded recipient email addresses, it will not be able to deliver the email messages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack prevents imssd from decoding the recipient email addresses of postponed, handed-off, and quarantined email messages in this case to ensure that postfix can successfully deliver these email messages. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12720](TT-282888) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: When a user sends out an email message, a tagging mechanism may change the contents of the email message after it is analyzed by Web Reputation Service (WRS). This issue occurs because the tagging mechanism inserts "\r\n" into the "X-TM-AS-URLRatingInfo" line if the line is longer than 76 characters. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack prevents the tagging mechanism from adding "\r\n" to the "X-TM-AS-URLRatingInfo" line even when the line is longer than 76 characters. This ensures that an email message's contents will not change after going through WRS. [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 14190](TT-283771) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: IMSS adds an extra backslash to the message header when it encounters a double quotation mark followed by a backslash ("\) in any of the message header fields "To", "From", "CC" and "BCC". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack prevents IMSS from adding unnecessary backslashes to the message header. [IMSVA 8.0 EN Hot Fix 14950](TT-282762) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: Sometimes, the WRS ratings for URLs in email messages may change so that some URLs that have been rated "safe" may be marked as "untested" at a later time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack enables WRS to use the "getservbyname_r" system function instead of the "getservbyname" function when rating URLs in email messages to ensure that the WRS ratings of these URLs do not change. [IMSVA 8.2 JP Hot Fix 17310](TT-280611) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: Services will not start after a component update. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack will check the PID file content before restarting or stopping services. If status is crashed, IMSS will force to restart the services. [IMSVA 8.2 JP Hot Fix 17310](TT-282045) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: When an address group is used by a policy rule with a route applied to both incoming and outgoing messages, the value of 'Used in Policy' is '1' after the first time-saving operation. However, it becomes '2' after being saved once again on the "Policy List > Rule Summary" page, even though there is no information of rule modification. Because another record is inserted into table "tb_named_obj_rule", it's difficult to understand for users. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: Setting the value to '2' at the first time-saving operation because it represents the number of times being used or referenced in a rule, rather than the number of rules. [IMSVA 8.2 JP Hot Fix 17310](TT-281862) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: For email messages with attachment containing some characters, for example, "I" and "II", the tmmsg module cannot convert the character set from ISO-2022-JP to UTF-8, and this causes a policy match failure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This solution ensures all normal characters be converted successfully. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12750](TT-285624) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: The "secure" attribute is missing from the encrypted session (SSL) cookie, which may allow vulnerabilities in some pages of the IMSS management console. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack adds the "secure" attribute to the encrypted (SSL) cookie to remove the vulnerability. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12750](TT-286500) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: The value of the "JsessionID" attribute in the cookie does not change after a user logs on successfully to the IMSS management console. This may allow a session fixation attack. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack ensures that the value of "JsessionID" is updated promptly after a user logs on successfully to the IMSS management console. This can help prevent the vulnerability. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12750](TT-286502) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: After users log out from the IMSS management console, they can still access the last accessed page of the console by clicking the "back" button on the browser. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack resolves this issue by adding some headers to prevent the browser from caching the pages of the IMSS management console and ensure that users can no longer access any pages by clicking the "back" button after they have successfully logged out. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12750](TT-283301) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: A Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) vulnerability may exist in the IMSS management console. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack removes the vulnerability. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12750](TT-284957) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: IMSS may not be able to detect spyware after the Virus Scan Engine is updated to version 10.0 or any later version. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack ensures that the Virus Scan Engine version 10.0 and later can successfully detect spyware. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12750](TT-287011) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: Sometimes, IMSS does not release some memory resources that it no longer uses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack ensures that IMSS releases memory resources that it no longer needs. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12780](TT-290588) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Enhancement: This service pack enables IMSS to search for users and user groups in the LDAP server from the management console the same way that the IMSS daemon searches for information when users query a policy by email address. [IMSVA 8.2 JP Hot Fix 17370](TT-289641) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: A memory violation issue in a third-party module of IMSS may cause the ActiveUpdate module to stop unexpectedly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack updates the third-party module to resolve the memory violation issue. [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 14200](TT-284529) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: If the notification message contents are encoded in "7bit" where the maximum length of a line is 990 characters, Postfix automatically inserts an "\r\n" without any escape sequences. This causes some garbage characters to appear in the notification. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack enables IMSS 7.1 for Linux to encode the contents of notifications that use the "iso-2022-jp" character set in "base64" instead of in "7bit". Since the length of each line in "base64" is limited to 76 characters only, this can help prevent garbage characters from appearing in these notifications. [IMSS 7.1 Win JP Hot Fix 15310](TT-285297) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: CMAgent (Imsscmagent.exe) always locks the imssmgr log file and does not release the old imssmgr log file immediately when a new imssmgr log file generates. As a result, users need to stop CMAgent before they can delete the old imssmgr log file. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack prevents CMAgent from locking the imssmgr log file. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Service pack 1](TT-289988) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: Some pages of IMSS management console are vulnerable to attackers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack remove the vulnerabilities from these pages. [IMSVA 8.2 JP Hot Fix 17360](TT-281338) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: When a POP3 user issues an AUTH command without specifying a method for authentication, the user may not receive any email messages. This happens because some email servers respond using different authentication methods, and IMSS will not handle these responses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack ensures that IMSS can process responses with different authentication methods so that the POP3 user can receive email messages under the scenario described above. [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 15930](TT-290072) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: The daemon process stops unexpectedly while updating the ICRC pattern. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack resolves the issue by enabling the daemon to restart automatically after each successful update. [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 15930](TT-291152) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: IMSS for Linux 7.1 encounters a memory leak issue while scanning email samples that have attachments without any extension names and email samples with multiple virus attachments. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack resolves the memory leak issue and ensures that IMSS for Linux 7.1 can scan these types of messages. [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 15930](TT-288686) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Enhancement: This service pack enables IMSS for Linux 7.1 to support OpenLDAP 2.4 for user group definition, administrator privileges, and End User Quarantine (EUQ) authentication. After applying this service pack, users can use either their distinguished names (cn=username, dc=domain or dc=com) or common names (username) to log on to the EUQ management console. If the logon name is a common name, IMSS for Linux 7.1 will search for the corresponding distinguished name and if there are several results, IMSS for Linux 7.1 will use the first one to log on to the EUQ management console. [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 15930](TT-288182) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Enhancement: This service pack enables IMSS for Linux 7.1 to regularly send product information updates to the BIF server. These updates should contain activation keys and the following product configuration information: - Version - product version - Build - product build - Language - product language - Prefilter - whether Prefilter is enabled or not - IPFiltering - whether IPFiltering is enabled or not - ERS - whether ERS is enabled or not - EUQ - whether EUQ is enabled or not - LDAPNum - number of configured LDAP servers - TMCM - whether IMSS is registered to Trend Micro Control Manager(TM) or not - ScanMethod - whether IMSS uses Smart Scan - SMTPAuth - whether SMTPAuth is enabled in IMSS [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 15930](TT-289112) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: When IMSS detects malware whose name is longer than 16 characters, IMSS will record abbreviated name to logs and notification messages. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack makes imss record real malware name to logs and notification messages. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 12720](TT-268602) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Enhancement: Currently, IMSS only allows users to add domains and IP addresses to the IP Profiler "Approved List" and "Blocked List". This hot fix enables users to also add IP ranges in the "IP/Mask" format like "10.64.10.10/255.255.252.0" to these lists. [IMSS 7.1 Linux JP Hot Fix 15940](TT-292807) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: The IMSS scan daemon (imssd) needs to restart in certain instances, for example, after a pattern update. If imssd restarts while the eManager(TM) module is filtering attachment files through DMC isolation, the DMC isolation process may keep running even after the imssd process has stopped. In this case, imssd cannot restart successfully because the DMC isolation process is still using the TCP ports that imssd needs to restart. This issue is more likely to occur when "DMCIsolateProcessTimeout" is set to a large value. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack enables the DMC isolation process to close the TCP ports before it starts filtering attachment files. This helps ensure that imssd can restart when a DMC isolation process is running. This service pack also modifies the scripts that stop imssd to kill a DMC isolation process that is still running after imssd has stopped. [IMSS 7.0 Sol JP Hot Fix 82910](TT-295183) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: After IMSS processes an email message, the "Message-ID" header changes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack ensures that an email message's "Message-ID" header does not change after IMSS processes it. [IMSS 7.1 Win JP Hot Fix 15440](TT-292652) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: Users may experience performance issues on the IMSVA policy server when the spam filter's Approved or Blocked Sender List contains a large number of email addresses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack improves the policy server's performance to support large Approved and Blocked Sender Lists. [IMSS 7.1 Linux EN Hot Fix 15970](TT-295014) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: IMSS for Linux 7.1 Smart Scan uses an OpenSSL version that is affected by a certain vulnerability. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack updates OpenSSL to resolve the issue. [IMSS 7.1 Linux EN Hot Fix 15970](TT-296243) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: The IMSS for Linux 7.1 management console is affected by a certain vulnerability. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack resolves the issue by enhancing a security filter to reject invalid requests. [IMSS 7.1 Linux EN Hot Fix 15970](TT-296655) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: After IMSS for Linux 7.1 Service Pack 1 is applied, a large number of "Found password-protected attachment in entity 0. Error: 0" log entries are generated in log.imss even when the email message that is being scanned does not contain any attachments. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack resolves the issue by enabling IMSS for Linux 7.1 to automatically reset an internal flag to zero. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 16000](TT-292800)(TT-291774) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: It may take a long time for IMSS to generate reports when there is a large number of IP addresses in the IP filtering list. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack improves the report generation performance of IMSS. [IMSVA 8.5 EN Hot Fix 16040](TT-293119) --------------------------------------------------------------------- Issue: In some networks, TCP connections that have been running for a long time may be forced to close by certain network equipment. When this happens, users may not be able to log on to the EUQ console. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Solution: This service pack enables IMSS to automatically renew TCP connections that have been running for a certain period of time. 3. A copy of the original product readme is available at: http://www.trendmicro.com/download/product.asp?productid=12. 5. Installation ======================================================================== Although the installation program backs up the old IMSS settings, Trend Micro recommends that you manually back up your settings before performing the upgrade installation. For details, refer to the Installation Guide. Upgrading to IMSS 7.1 SP2 varies depending on your IMSS deployment. Single server and distributed deployments require different installation procedures. 5.1 Installing This Service Pack ===================================================================== Refer to the following steps for instructions on how to install this service pack: 1) Extract the file for Service Pack 2 and go to the package directory. 2) Type the command "./imssinst". 3) Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation. If you deploy IMSS7.1 GM/Patch1/Patch2/Patch3/SP1 build under a distributed scenario, observe the following sequence when applying this Service Pack: Step 1: Install Service Pack 2 on the computer where you installed the Central Controller. Step 2: Stop the upstream MTA. Step 3: Install Service Pack 2 on all the computers where you installed scanner services, policy services and EUQ service. Step 4: Start the upstream MTA. Note: 1) If the installation cannot complete, perform the following to roll back the installation: a) Type the command "./manual_rollback". b) Follow the on-screen prompts to roll the system back. 2) To avoid inconsistency issues, use IMSS 7.1 SP2 after all components have been successfully installed. 5.2 Removing This Service Pack ===================================================================== This section only explains how to remove the successfully installed service pack. Refer to the note at the end of Section 5.1 for instructions on rolling back a partially installed service pack. Refer to the following steps for instructions to remove this service pack and roll back to the previous IMSS build: 1) Go to the service pack package directory. 2) Type the command "./imssinst". 3) Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the uninstallation. If you want to roll back the service pack under a distributed scenario, observe the following sequence to avoid inconsistency: Step 1: Stop the upstream MTA. Step 2: Roll back the service pack for all IMSS components. Step 3: Start the upstream MTA. 6. Post-Installation Configuration ======================================================================== Note: Trend Micro recommends that you update your scan engine and virus pattern files immediately after installing the product. 7. Known Issues ======================================================================== The following describes known issues in this release: 7.1 IMSS attempts to convert characters to UTF8 when the subject line of an email message has no character set information, uses special characters (such as the copyright symbol), or uses double-byte characters. If the conversion to UTF8 is not successful: - The logs contain garbled characters. - IMSS quarantines the email message and the subject field displays the message "Unsupported charset non-UTF-8" if you attempt to view the message through the management console. 7.2 To view the IMSS 7.1 management console with Internet Explorer on a computer running Windows 2003, do the following: 1. From the Internet Explorer menu, choose "Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites > Sites". 2. Add the IP address of the computer where IMSS is installed. 7.3 To prevent IMSS from scanning messages, you can create a new rule to hand off the messages you do not want scanned. However, IMSS may still trap these messages if they trigger email scanning exceptions. This is because the email scanning exception has a higher priority than spam filters and content filters. 7.4 IMSS cannot be installed on SeLinux (Security-Enhanced Linux) on Red Hat. 7.5 IMSS cannot be installed on Red Hat if virtualization technology is enabled. 7.6 When installing the database for IMSS, do not use double-byte characters when specifying the database password. IMSS cannot connect to the database if double-byte characters are used in the password. 7.7 IMSS provides limited support for 64-bit environments. Trend Micro addresses only issues that occur in both 32-bit and 64-bit environments. 7.8 IMSS is not fully functional in 64-bit Red Hat environments. To use IMSS, install the following 32-bit packages. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (both AS and ES) - Compatibility Arch Support Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 - Legacy Software Support - Legacy Software Development Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 - Compatibility 2.96-RH standard C++ libraries (compat-libstdc++-296-2.96-~.rpm) - An XML parser library (expat-~.rpm) - GNU libc libraries (glibc-~.rpm) - Dynamic library for extended attribute support (libattr-~.rpm) - Library for getting and setting POSIX.1e capabilities (libcap-~.rpm) - GNU Standard C++ Library (libstdc++-~.rpm) - GCC version 4.4 shared support library (libgcc-~.rpm) - Universally unique ID library (libuuid-~.rpm) - Library providing XML and HTML support (libxml2-~.rpm) - Freebl library for the Network Security Services (nss-softokn-freebl-~.rpm) - zlib compression and decompression library (zlib-~.rpm) Note: "~" represents a release version, which may vary among different Linux distributions. 7.9 IP Profiler supports 32-bit MTAs only. When IP Profiler is enabled in 64-bit environments, IMSS displays the following error message whenever Postfix is started or stopped. # ERROR: ld.so: object '/opt/trend/ipprofiler/lib/ libTmFoxSocketLib.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. Note: This error does not affect the functionality of IP Profiler. IMSS displays the error message because "libTmFoxSocketLib.so" is a 32-bit library, which cannot be loaded by certain external applications called by Postfix in 64-bit environments. 7.10 EUQ cannot be started on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. To use EUQ, execute the following command: # ln -s /lib/libexpat.so.1.5.2 /lib/libexpat.so.0 7.11 BIND bundled with IMSS cannot be started on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. To start BIND, execute the following command: # ln -s /lib/libcap.so.2.16 /lib/libcap.so.1 Note: You do not need to execute this command if you have applied Patch 1 or later patches. 7.12 MTA events query on the management console does not function correctly in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 environments. To resolve this issue, create "syslog.conf" by executing the following command: # cp /etc/rsyslog.conf /etc/syslog.conf 7.13 You must install the telnet package (telnet-~.rpm) to use IMSS on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Note: "~" represents a release version, which may vary among different Linux distributions. 8. Limitation ======================================================================== 8.1 Some keyword expressions use "\s" (without the quotes) at the beginning and ending. IMSS will drop "\s" and change "|" to ".OR." (without the quotes) in policy event logs when this keyword is matched in the rule. If you want to display complete expressions, change "\s" to "\b" (without the quotes) in these expressions. If it just uses "\s" at the beginning or ending of the keyword expressions, it will not be affected. Example: Keyword expression is "\s(keyword1)|(keyword2)|(keyword3)\s" (without the quotes), when it matches in the policy event log the Keyword/Regular Expressions column only displays "keyword1 .OR. keyword2 .OR. keyword3" (without the quotes). You can change this expression to "\b(keyword1)|(keyword2)| (keyword3)\b" (without the quotes). 9.
