1. About ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange
========================================================================
ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange version 8.0 protects Exchange Server
2000, Exchange Server 2003, and Exchange Server 2007. Use the ScanMail
installation program to quickly and easily install ScanMail to one or
more, local or remote, Exchange servers. Once installed, ScanMail can
protect your servers in real time against viruses/malware, Trojans,
worms, and spyware/grayware. ScanMail sustains business and network
integrity by screening out spam messages and messages containing
undesirable or unwanted content.

NOTE: This release supports Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft
      Exchange Server 2007 only

2. What's New
========================================================================
The following new features are available in ScanMail version 8.0:

   2.1. Supports Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
   =====================================================================
   ScanMail 8.0 supports the following server roles of Microsoft
   Exchange Server 2007:
   - Edge Transport Server Role
   - Hub Transport Server Role
   - Mailbox Server Role
   - Combo Server Role (Mailbox server + Hub Transport server)
   - Clustered Mailbox Server Role
   ScanMail 8.0 performs different functions on different server roles.

   2.2. Installation enhancement
   =====================================================================
   - ScanMail 8.0 supports silent installation using a pre-configured
     file.
   - Control Manager(TM) Agent is installed and uninstalled during the
     ScanMail 8.0 installation and uninstallation process.
   - ScanMail 8.0 can be installed with a minimum of local administrator
     privileges.

   Note: For ScanMail 8.0 supports End User Quarantine (EUQ) with
   Exchange Server 2007, please refer to section 6.8.

   2.3. Supports Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 integration
   =====================================================================
   ScanMail 8.0 supports alert functionality in MOM 2005. MOM 2005
   receives information from ScanMail and manages ScanMail alert
   information.

   2.4. Supports Control Manager integration with new protocol
   =====================================================================
   ScanMail 8.0 supports the following Control Manager versions:
   - Control Manager 3.0 (Build 1417) + Service Pack 6 + Hot fix 5032
   - Control Manager 3.5 (Build 1234) + Patch2 (Build 1408)

   The Communication between ScanMail 8.0 and Control Manager uses a
   new protocol called the Trend Micro Control Manager Management
   Communication Protocol (MCP) agent. ScanMail 8.0 no longer supports
   the Trend Micro Management Infrastructure (TMI) protocol used by
   previous versions of ScanMail and Control Manager. ScanMail 8.0
   supports Single sign-on from Control Manager. You can access the
   ScanMail product console directly from the Control Manager product
   console without typing a separate user name and password for the
   ScanMail product console.

   2.5. Supports Trust Scan on Exchange Server 2007 environment
   =====================================================================
   Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 uses the Transport Hook mechanism to
   protect SMTP email. This release protects SMTP email by supporting
   Trust Scan. ScanMail 8.0 on Mailbox servers do not perform a
   redundant scan of email messages if messages have already been
   scanned on Edge or Hub Transport servers by ScanMail 8.0.

   2.6. A new category for unscannable message parts
   =====================================================================
   ScanMail 8.0 separates the unscannable message count from the virus
   count. Unscannable files can be files that fall outside of the "Scan
   Restriction criteria" you define, encrypted files, or password
   protected files. This version of ScanMail includes a new category
   called "Unscannable message parts" for unscannable files in the
   following areas:
   - Summary
   - Logs
   - Real-Time Monitor
   - Reports
   - Notifications

   2.7. Provides an action to quarantine message part
   =====================================================================
   You have the option of selecting "Quarantine message part" in Virus
   Scan, Attachment Blocking, and Content Filtering. In previous
   versions of ScanMail only Quarantine entire message was available.

   2.8. Provides keyword violation in Content filtering logs
   =====================================================================
   This version of ScanMail provides the keyword violation in addition
   to the rule name in Content filtering logs. If the keyword or regular
   expression is too long to display, logs display truncated information.

   2.9. Manual Scan and Scheduled Scan enhancement
   =====================================================================
   For Exchange Server 2007, the Manual Scan and Scheduled Scan pages
   only appear on Combo Server (Hub Transport + Mailbox server role) and
   Mailbox server roles. ScanMail 8.0 offers incremental scan options
   only with Exchange Server 2007.

   There are three options:
   - Scan messages delivered during a time period.
   - Scan messages with attachments.
   - Scan messages that have not been scanned by ScanMail.

   Note: ActiveUpdate does not interrupt Manual Scan and Scheduled Scan.

   2.10. Cluster support
   =====================================================================
   ScanMail 8.0 supports Exchange Server 2007 Single Copy Cluster (SCC)
   and Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) models.

   ScanMail 8.0 uses the Exchange Virtual Servers (EVS) management model
   for managing clusters. Each virtual server owns independent ScanMail
   configuration information and keeps the data consistent even when
   performing a failover to another node. (The CCR model does not keep
   data consistent when performing failover to another node.)

   2.11. Supports IntelliTrap
   =====================================================================
   To support IntelliTrap, ScanMail 8.0 updates IntelliTrap pattern
   files and IntelliTrap exception pattern files.

   2.12 Resolved Known Issues and Enhancements
        (from Previous Versions and Patch 3)
   =====================================================================
   1. When a client sends out an email message that matches the content
      filter, attachment blocking, or virus scan rules in Microsoft
      Office Outlook 2003 with cache model, the client receives
      multiple notifications, logs, and quarantine logs.

   2. ScanMail incorrectly parses email addresses that contain special
      characters, with a comma ",". If an email address contains a
      German umlaut character, ScanMail separates the address into 2
      addresses.

   3. When the Microsoft Exchange cluster group is taken offline, all
      resources, except the Information Store instance, become offline.
      An event (Event ID 7034) states that the Information Store
      terminated.

      *Note: This issue only occurs on a 64-bit cluster server.

   4. ScanMail generates wrong descriptions for "Event ID:32" in the
      NT Application Event Log.

   5. SQL errors may appear in the Application Event Log if a process
      like SMEX_SystemWatcher tries to access the ScanMail database
      when the shared disks are offline.

      *Note: This issue only occurs on an Exchange 2007 Single Copy
             Cluster.

   6. ScanMail is unable to change the subject of an email that is
      already in the Information Store. If a content filtering rule
      for a particular subject is used, the same email will be
      quarantined again when accessed.

   7. Supports Microsoft(TM) Office 2007 file types in File Attachment
      Blocking and Virus Scan features. This feature is supported
      only scan engine versions 8.5 or later.

   8. Attachment Blocking supports additional types of compressed
      files aside from just blocking attachments within "ZIP" files.

   9. When executing Spam Maintenance, EUQ_Monitor does not behave as
      expected when there are accounts that have null display names.

   10. When setting ScanMail to block all attachments (or files like
       ATT*.txt or ATT*.htm), the "notification on receive message"
       email of Outlook Express is blocked.

       Even if ScanMail is configured to exclude attachments with
       names like "ATT*.txt" or "ATT*.htm", ScanMail still quarantines
       some message parts of the read receipt with a blank attachment
       name.

   11. When the Attachment Blocking replacement setting key uses a null
       file name, "Replace attachment with file/text" and "Quarantine
       message part" does not take any action in ScanMail.

   12. ScanMail Real-time (on-access) Scan can trigger re-scanning of
       old email messages. Therefore, old attachments can be deleted
       and quarantined again by Attachment Blocking.

   13. If a user resends an email that was previously quarantined
       because of the "Encrypted and password protected files" or
       "Files outside of scan restriction criteria" conditions, the
       re-sent email will be quarantined again for the same reason.

       Notes:
       a. To ensure all re-sent email messages are virus free, these
          messages are scanned by Virus Scan.
       b. For compressed files that exceed limits (file count,
          decompressed file size, layer, ratio), for re-sent email
          messages, this fix will automatically change the action to
          "Pass".
       c. For email messages that exceed the maximum size, this fix
          will bypass size check and sends the message through Virus
          Scan. The effectiveness of the virus scan may be affected
          by the maximum size of the shared resource pool.

   14. After applying a patch for ScanMail, the build number of the
       patch does not display correctly in the Product Status of
       Control Manager.

   15. Attachment Blocking might not behave as expected when scanning
       email messages wherein the email message content size is 0 and
       content is NULL.

   16. When ScanMail runs in a cluster environment, ScanMail
       updates/accesses the cluster registry frequently and decreases
       the performance of the cluster.

       Note: This issue only occurs on 32-bit/64-bit cluster servers.

   17. Client experiences the following:
       (1)Unable to send an email using the 'Reply to All' option and a
          non-delivery receipt or NDR is received.
       (2)External recipients or those whose mailboxes are not on the
          same server receive their unreadable email with "winmail.dat"
          as an attachment.
       Both of these occur because the TmMsg module causes the email
       message to become corrupted by mistakenly replacing a blank
       character in a complete line.

   18. Some users would like an option to disable VSAPI from scanning
       certain mailbox stores. To do this, set the registry value
       "VirusScanEnabled" to 0 under HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet
       \Services\MSExchangeIS\[ServerName]\[Mailbox DB GUID]\. However,
       this key reverts to 1 whenever the SMEX_Master service restarts.

   19. While ScanMail is running, after a few hours, email messages
       will start to queue. If user re-starts the ScanMail for Microsoft
       Exchange service, the application will hang at "Stopping".

   20. ScanMail 8.0 End User Quarantine support with Microsoft Exchange
       Server 2007 MailBox Server.

       Note: This feature is only for 64-bit environments.

   21. The "toolManualUpdate.exe" tool triggers the command to update
       all the ScanMail components (patterns, engines...etc) when
       executed.

       Note: On the cluster server node where the tool is executed,
       manual update is triggered by the virtual servers that are
       currently online on the node.

   22. ScanMail will generate multiple log entries and notification
       messages for each file inside a compressed file that is password
       protected, encrypted, or meets the over restriction rule.

   23. The extraction module for PDF files and Microsoft(TM)
       Word/Excel/PowerPoint files causes an exception issue in
       eManager.

   24. "SMEX_Master.exe" consumes a lot of memory when scanning large
       email messages on 32-bit versions of ScanMail.

   25. Content Scanning does not behave as expected when scanning
       certain email messages with empty subjects.

   26. The ScanMail Control Manager Agent is unable to send logs to
       Control Manager Servers when ScanMail is configured to use a
       remote SQL Server.

       Note: This issue only occurs on 64-bit environments.

   27. Users can include a variable "[Attachment Name]" in the
       replacement text.

   28. If users select the "Block attachment types or names within
       compressed files" option in the "Attachment Blocking" filter,
       ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange blocks specific file types
       (e.g., JPG files) inside Microsoft(TM) Office 2007 files
       if the file type is selected in the attachment blocking filter.

   29. The End User Quarantine (EUQ) does not have a feature that
       quarantines spam emails by checking the subject prefix instead
       of the x-header added by the Trend Micro Anti-Spam engine.

   30. When replicating the configuration using Server Management, and
       if the "Overwrite server-dependent settings" option is selected,
       the "Entity display name" of the target servers changes to the
       name of the source server.

   31. After network failure, the ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange
       product console cannot be opened because of database error
       in Exchange Server 2007 in a single copy cluster environment.

       Note: This issue only occurs on an Exchange Server 2007 Single
       Copy Cluster (SSC).

   32. Trend Micro Messaging (TmMsg) module might cause unexpected
       behavior when parsing a user address in Japanese character sets
       (iso-2022-jp).

   33. The EUQ_Monitor service does not behave as expected when
       executing Spam Maintenance in ScanMail. This is due to accounts
       with null "ExchangeDN" and "SmtpAddr" properties.

   34. If the "disable8dot3" option in Windows is enabled before
       installing ScanMail 8.0 for Microsoft Exchange, some images in
       the ScanMail reports sent through email are displayed as broken
       links and cannot be viewed.

   35. On the Real-time Monitor page of ScanMail 8.0 for Microsoft
       Exchange, the number of spam messages does not increase when spam
       messages are quarantined or deleted by other filters after being
       scanned by the spam filter.

   36. The Trend Micro Control Manager(TM) MCP Agent sometimes does not
       send logs or communicate with the Control Manager server.

   37. ScanMail Attachment Blocking filter incorrectly detects .PRX file
       attachments as executable (.EXE) files.

   38. ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange TMMSG module unexpectedly stops
       when multiple threads simultaneously encode the RTF content of
       the TNEF entity.

   39. ScanMail does not take the correct action for Attachment Blocking
       the content type of the entity is "text/HTML".

          * Value: 0 - Feature disabled;
                   1 - Notification from the "Sent Items" folder is
                       disabled.

      Note: If this key does not exist, the function will be disabled.

      To support localized mailboxes, please use the following key to
      specify the local name of the "Sent Items" folder.
      If the end user of the Exchange client uses a non-English Office
      Outlook, it will be in a different name. User should manually
      add it to this setting.

          * Path:  HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\
                   CurrentVersion
          * Key:   ExcludeLoggingFolderList
          * Type:  REG_SZ
          * Value: <Folder_Name_1>;<Folder_Name_2>

      Notes:
        a. Each folder name should be separated by a semicolon ';'.
        b. Make sure there are no extra spaces before and after each
           folder name.
        c. Restart ScanMail services for changes on this key to
           take effect.
        d. If this key is not defined, it will use the "Sent Items"
           folder by default.

        For example:
        For Exchange 2000/2003, use the following settings:
          *ExcludeNotification = 1
          *ExcludeNotificationFolderList = Sent Items
          *ExcludeLogging = 1
          *ExcludeLoggingFolderList = Sent Items

        For Exchange 2007, use the following settings:
          *ExcludeNotification = 1
          *ExcludeNotificationFolderList = Sent Items;Outbox
          *ExcludeLogging = 1
          *ExcludeLoggingFolderList = Sent Items;Outbox

   2. To configure ScanMail Real-time (on-access) scan to skip content
      filtering for the message received older than a period of time.

          * Path: HKLM\Software\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                      \CurrentVersion
          * Key:  CFBypassAgingMail
          * Type: REG_DWORD
          * Value: 0-Disable, In days

        Notes:
        a. Specify the definition of an email message in days. For
           example, if you specify 30, ScanMail will skip content
           filtering for email messages which arrived 30 days earlier.
        b. This registry key will only affect real-time/on-access scan.
        c. Each time you change the setting, restart the SMEX_Master
           service for the changes to take effect.

   3. To exclude the type of attachment that will not be blocked by
      attachment blocking.

          *Path:  HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                      \CurrentVersion
          *Key:   ForceExcludeContentType
          *Type:  REG_SZ
          *Value: <Content_Type_Name_1>;<Content_Type_Name_2>

        Notes:
        a. By adding the following key to the registry, the receipt will
           be skipped and not be blocked by attachment blocking.
        b. Separate additional content type by using semicolon (;).
        c. If this key does not exist, the function will be disabled.

        For example:
        *ForceExcludeContentType =
          message/disposition-notification;message/delivery-status

   4. To skip attachment blocking for messages received that are older
      than a certain time period.

           *Path: HKLM\Software\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                      \CurrentVersion
           *Name: ABBypassAgingMail
           *Type: REG_DWORD
           *Value: 0-Disable, In days

         Notes:
         a. The default value is "Disable".
         b. To enable this feature, specify a number in days. For
            example, if you specify 30, ScanMail will skip attachment
            blocking for email messages which arrived 30 days earlier.
         c. This registry key will only affect real-time/on-access scan.
         d. Each time you change the setting, restart the SMEX_Master
            service for the changes to take effect.

    5. To enlarge the Product Registration registry key polling interval
       from one minute to one day. This means that if you update the
       license from one node, it will be reflected on other nodes for,
       at most, 1 day. If the interval is too long, you can also create
       a registry key and specify the polling interval wants.

           * Path:  HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                        \CurrentVersion
           * Key:   PRPollingInterval
           * Type:  REG_DWORD
           * Value: In minutes

        Notes:
        a. Please specify the interval in minutes. For example, if you
           want to change the polling interval to 5 minutes, change
           the value of "PRPollingInterval" to "5".
        b. By default, you do not need to create this registry key.
           The default setting is one day.
        c. You must restart SMEX_Master service after making the
           necessary changes.

    6. To prevent SMEX_Master service from resetting the
       "VirusScanEnabled" key, a registry value named
       "ResetVirusScanAfterRestart" can be added under each Mailbox
       database GUID. If "ResetVirusScanAfterRestart" is set to 0,
       whenever SMEX_Master restarts, it will not reset the value of
       "VirusScanEnabled" back to 1.

           * Path: HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\
                   [ServerName]\[Mailbox database GUID]\
           * Key:  ResetVirusScanAfterRestart
           * Type: REG_DWORD
           * Value: 0 - does not reset "VirusScanEnabled" after restart.
                    1 - default

    7. To enable ScanMail End User Quarantine support on Microsoft
       Exchange Server 2007 MailBox Server role.

         Procedure:
         a. Users who want to use EUQ on Microsoft Exchange Server
            2007 MailBox Server role need to install the ExchangeMAPICDO
            component on their server first. Refer to the following site:
            http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=
            E17E7F31-079A-43A9-BFF2-0A110307611E&displaylang=en
         b. Manually update the "JunkEmailIntegration" registry key to
            0.

           *Path: HKLM\Software\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                      \CurrentVersion
           *Key:  JunkEmailIntegration
           *Type: REG_DWORD
           *Value: 0

            Make sure you update this registry key on all the server
            roles specified. (Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Edge
            Transport/Hub Transport/MailBox Server Role.)

         c. Enable EUQ.
            i. Go to the ScanMail product console on Microsoft
                 Exchange Server 2007 MailBox Server Role.
            ii. Click Administration > Spam Maintenance.
            iii. Activate EUQ.

        Notes:
        a. Make sure you are using an account with domain administrator
           privileges before enabling EUQ.
        b. This feature is only for 64-bit environments.

        Restrictions:
        a. The "MapiSvc.inf: file under

           [Windows directory]\syswow64\mapisvc.inf

           will be modified and the original "MapiSvc.inf" file will be
           backed up as "mapisrvc.inf.backedup-by-smex-[count]". The
           system can save up to 10 files. If the user has already
           installed MAPI and this is being used in the server, manually
           merge the files to make existing applications work.
        b. Automatic importing of the email white list is not supported
           by this hot fix if some email addresses have already been
           entered as white lists using the Junk folder feature of
           Outlook. This means that you need to manually add these
           email addresses to the approved sender list.

    8. To trigger a manual update of all components using the
       "toolManualUpdate.exe" tool.

           * Path:  [SMEX_root]\
           * Name:  toolManualUpdate.exe
           * Usage: toolManualUpdate.exe

   9. To exclude the redundant log/notification for "protected file"
      and "over restriction" rule by adding the registry key below.
      If this key is enabled, ScanMail only writes to the log and sends
      the notification once for each compressed file.

           * Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                       \CurrentVersion
           * Key:  ExcludeRedundantUnscannableLog
           * Type: REG_DWORD
           * Value: 0 - disabled, 1 - enabled

   10. To prevent ScanMail from blocking files inside Microsoft Office
       2007 documents:

           * Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                       \CurrentVersion
           * Key:  SkipBlockingFilesInsideOffice2007Files
           * Type: REG_DWORD
           * Value: 0 - disabled, 1 - enabled

       Note:
       If this registry key is enabled, the attachment blocking filter
       ignores the files inside Microsoft(TM) Office 2007 documents.

   11. To provide an option to quarantine spam email messages to the
       "Spam Mail" folder of the user by checking if the subject
       prefix of the email contains a "[Spam]" tag.

       To configure EUQ to quarantine spam mail messages by checking the
       prefix on the email subject:

       a. Open the EUQ configuration file by using a text editor.

           * Path:

           - Stand-alone servers: "<SMEX_root>\EUQ\config\"
             (for example, "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Smex\EUQ\config\")

           - Cluster servers: "<SMEX_shared_folder>\EUQ\config\"
             (for example, "R:\SMEX\EUQ\config\")

           * Filename: cfg_EUQServerInfo.txt

       b. Add the following lines to the [CurrentVersion] section.

          [CurrentVersion]
          EnableSubjectChecking=1
          SpamPrefix="[Spam]"

          - "EnableSubjectChecking" accepts the value 1 or 0 to enable or
             disable this feature.

          - "SpamPrefix" contains the subject prefix that EUQ will
             identify as spam email messages.

       c. Save the changes.
       d. Restart "EUQ_Monitor" service.
       e. Open ScanMail Product Console.
       f. Go to "Administration" -> "Spam Maintenance".
       g. Click on "Create spam folder and delete spam messages" to
          update all EUQ Inbox Rule on the end-user's mailboxes.

       Note:
       a. Repeat this procedure whenever the values in
          "EnableSubjectChecking" and "SpamPrefix" have been modified.

   12. To restart SQL service whenever a virtual server is online.

       a. Open the service control manager (SCM), and stop all ScanMail
          related services.
          - ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Master Service
          - ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Remote Configuration Server
          - ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange System Watcher
          - SQL Server (SCANMAIL)

       b. Add the following registry value:

           * Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange
                       \CurrentVersion
           * Key:  RestartSQLServiceWhenResourceOnline
           * Type: REG_DWORD
           * Data value: 0 - disabled, 1 - enabled

       c. Remove the dependency between ScanMail_Master service and
          MSSQL$SCANMAIL:

          i.  Open a command line prompt (cmd.exe)
          ii. Type the following command (Beware of empty space between
              depends= and "")

              sc config ScanMail_Master depend= ""

       d. Start all SMEX related services.

       Notes:
       a. Restart all SMEX related services for changes on this key to
          take effect.
       b. This feature is only for Exchange Server 2007 Single Copy
          Cluster (SCC).

   13. To use the http protocol instead of the file path to generate the
       report template. This is done by adding the registry key below.

           * Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\
                   CurrentVersion
           * Key:  UseHttpToConvertReport
           * Type: REG_DWORD
           * Data value: 0 - disabled, 1 - enabled

       Note:
       Restart all SMEX related services for changes on this key to
       take effect.

7. Known Issues
========================================================================
This release of ScanMail includes the following known issues:

  7.1 ScanMail 8.0 on Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR) needs to
      re-register to Control Manager after failover:
  ========================================================================
  Due to the design of Cluster Continuous Replication (CCR), ScanMail 8.0
  does not keep data consistent for the same virtual server after
  failover. When performing failover to another node that has not
  registered to Control Manager, the entity icon (virtual Server Name_SMEX)
  shows that the server is logged off.

  Register to Control Manager in this situation and two identical entity
  icons under Product Directory of the Control Manager console appear.
  There are two icons in the Control Manager console and one displays
  "Product service started" and the other displays "Logged off".
  Functions can still deploy to ScanMail 8.0 normally.

  7.2 SQL errors might appear if unexpected disk failures occur with
      Exchange Server 2007 cluster environments:
  ========================================================================
  In such a situation, manually restart the "SQL Server (SCANMAIL)" service
  and its dependent services to return the SQL service back to a normal
  state.

  7.3 Installation might not display all computers if Computer Browser
      Service is not enabled on the Windows 2008 Server domain controller.
  ========================================================================
  Enable Computer Browser Service on the Windows 2008 Server domain controller
  to display all computers when browsing during the installation process.
